With the release of Jeremy Scahill's book "Dirty Wars" and the even more recent release of the film by the same title, Mr. Scahill is hitting the speaking circuit around the country. On June 8, 2013, this video captured a small portion of his talk at Busboys & Poets at 5th St and K St in Washington, DC. The title "Dirty Wars" is meant to contrast with the often used euphemism "surgical strike" and tends to focus on the "collateral damage" from such actions. It poses the debatable question of is our counterterrorism policy counterproductive as it terrorizes large populations and results in many civilian deaths and many suddenly very anti-American potential terrorists. Scahill is also the author of the book "Blackwater" which addresses some of the culture and the misdeeds of this infamous, now renamed (Academi) defense contractor. "Blackwater", in his words, "describes the rise of Blackwater USA, the world's most powerful mercenary army." The venue was filled to capacity so the videographer apologies for the at times shaky video; there was no good place for a tripod.
