A graduate of Manhattan's High School of Art and Design, Paula holds an Associate degree from Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where she studied fashion illustration. Interested in painting since childhood, she was further motivated when a classmate showed her a book of works by American illustrator and painter Norman Rockwell; Paula was strongly affected by the realism of his images. She has found drawing and painting classes at the Art Students League invaluable for keeping her skills fresh. She works primarily in oil and watercolor, and her favored subjects are people (especially faces). Paula describes her pieces as "emotions in time," and she comes upon inspiration everywhere: "I can be sitting on the subway, and by the time I get to where I'm going, my brain is flooded with images of people I want to paint," she says. Her pieces have been presented in numerous shows (including two solo exhibitions) at various venues, and her work was included in an exhibition at the Education and Research Center of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
