Issue 2 web exclusive: Inside the dance studio with members of New York’s BalletCollective
Director Paul Maffi
Stylist Ethel Park
The dancers of New York’s BalletCollective plié and jeté across the pages in photographer Paul Maffi’s Issue 2 “Dance the Dance” story. The budding ensemble (formerly the Satellite Ballet), founded in 2010 by New York City Ballet dancer Troy Schumacher, includes a mix of fellow NYCB dancers, choreographers, visual artists, and musicians who blend their respective art forms to create new works. In this CR Fashion Book exclusive short, Maffi captured some of the BalletCollective dancers on film as they go from the dance studio to the stage. They make impossible movements possible with their stretches, they ready their feet and their shoes, and practice those pirouettes, all in preparation for a breathtaking, beautiful performance. In the final scenes, fashion and ballet collide when the dancers don clothes from the likes of Rick Owens and Givenchy.
