Director Andres Figeredo (C'13) reflects on the making of MUSE:
"It is hard to precisely pinpoint where I got my inspiration from to create Muse. As a director two of my greatest influences were Alfred Hitchcock and Darren Aronofsky. Both filmmakers deal with issues of obsessions, which is a central theme in Muse. I carefully studied the way in which these filmmakers framed their subjects, how they used point of view camera to put the audience in a first person perspective, and in such a way identify with the character, how to make the audience believe the story is going one way and then show a completely different reality, these are all traits in Hitchcock and Aronofsky’s films that I attempted to recreate in Muse. Literarily I was fascinated by Hermann Hess’s Steppenwolf, I was really intrigued by the way in which Hess wrote himself into the story, I thought it would be interesting to show that in a film."
