Amanda Dale, Executive Director, Barbra Schlifer Clinic
Amanda drew attention to the growing global phenomenon of migration due to violence, specifically, the violence women are experiencing on an individual and systemic level. The fastest growing group of women in Toronto is women with no legal status, rendering them invisible. Women without legal status cannot work, causing homelessness and putting them at risk for violence and mental health and addictions issues. Although there has been a movement toward Primary Health Care workers effectively addressing issues of health equity, it is still a challenge for women to access mental health and addictions services.
Amanda and her team support women who need legal services, culturally accessible counseling services that can be delivered in 80 languages. Amanda’s constant focus is to deliver individually tailored opportunities to address serious barriers to health, existence and service.
