Based on their well-received presentation at the Spring 2013 CNI meeting, Will Sexton and Sean Aery will describe their work embedding structured metadata within the source code of the web pages that display finding aids and digital collections at Duke University Libraries. This allows the expression of data using vocabularies created by Google and other search engines (based on schema.org), as well as Facebook (Open Graph), and provides great potential for increasing the resources' interoperability with these major discovery hubs. They are also exploring this approach as a way to enhance and replace the discovery services we offer users within their own sites.
