This video chronicles the process for my new favorite way to create vector art. First, I sketch the drawing out on my iPad using ArtRage. When I'm done drafting the image in pen and ink, I transfer the file into Inkscape (kind of like Illustrator, but free) and do an auto trace of the image. Inkscape's 'Trace Bitmap' works better than Illustrator CS5.5's 'Live Trace.' I haven't tried the new 'Live Trace' in CS6 to judge. After the vector artwork has been made, I bring it into Illustrator to color. I'm a big fan of the Appearance Palette and it's hard to give up a good thing.
