Choreographer Mor Shani is working on “Love-ism”. Love-ism is a long term study inspired by the book “Art of Loving” by Erich Fromm. In this study Shani wishes to challenge the perception and liquidity of the agreed upon, the sublime and the condemned. He asks: “when do supreme ideas about love like care, mutuality and dependency stop being sacred and become sinful? And what is it that distinguishes one kind of love from another?”
Every Saturday in SKVR Shani meets a mixed group of amateurs, kids and adults, with whom he researches the border between a love that is sacred and a love that is sinful. The group is often extended with Shani’s professional cast that participate in the Love-ism study. The mix of personalities and experience causes an inspiring exchange of ideas, emotions and physical language.
The creative process is filmed by the video artist, Paul Sixta. The film expands and challenges the discussion by making the process accessible and transparent for a larger audience. The full film will be presented as part of Love-ism Chapter 2 which will premier in December in Rotterdamse Schouwburg.
The first chapter of Love-ism was presented at Cadance festival Den Haag in February 2013.
Love-ism Chapter 2 is presented December 6, 7 and 8 in Krijn Boon Studio, Rotterdamse Schouwburg.
Production: Dansateliers in collaboration with Rotterdamse Schouwburg, SKVR Rotterdam, ICKAmsterdam, Act Your Age and Frascati productions.
