When Quin, 9, was three he was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum as high-functioning Aspergers Syndrome. I left my full-time job, worked from home and dedicated myself to helping him learn to speak. Now he's nine and I started a full-time job in broadcasting this week. He was worried about me, imagining all kinds of horrors of mom in a strange, new place. My new boss, Pete said he could come in and see the station after my shift tonight and all my new co-workers jumped at the chance to show off the station for my little guy.
None of them knew he has Aspergers. They just were welcoming because that's who they are.
