John Roughton: the quest for better boards

'The First Wave' is an oral history project charting the development of surfing in Britain - from its early origins of lone surfers riding waves on make-shift wooden boards, to its current status as a cultural phenomenon.

Delivered by Porthtowan Surf Life Saving Club with support from the Museum of British Surfing, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and the Cornwall Audio Visual Archive, ‘The First Wave’ is funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund with additional sponsorship from Skinner’s brewery.
