Cloudcommuting video & paper at the Interaction Design and Children (IDC 2013) conference in New York City. The paper discusses the design, process, and results of an experimental workshop with middle-school students that introduced the theory, underlying technology, and operational challenges of Mobility on Demand (MoD) systems. Students brainstormed ideas of how to use electronics, interaction design and game theory to make MoD systems that incentivize users to rebalance vehicles through rewards/penalties. Furthermore they tested their ideas by collaboratively designing, prototyping, and playing an interactive board game implementing both theory and technology. Through their game students explored questions such as: how can we create coordinated behavior from self-interested players? How and when can the game reach a sustainable equilibrium? In what other systems can we apply similar concepts?
