Island Peak, was our first Himalayan peak.
We attempted first week of May 2013.
From our basecamp we woke up at 1200am and left at 130am, it took 4 hours of scrambling in the dark to reach Crampon point where we put on our harnesses and crampons, roped up and started through the mini icefall.
After an hour on the glacier we were staring up 35m vertical Ice headwall. It took some time for us to jummar to the top where we took a break on the summit ridge. Then it was a short walk along the ridge to the summit. It was there at 6189m that I asked Kim to marry me... She said yes...
We used Mountain Monarch as our guiding company while in Nepal, who were unbelievable by the way.
It was too dark to take any pictures on the way up and I was too tired on the wall to pull out my camera.
Island Peak is 5 meters shorter than Mt. McKinley (Denali), The tallest mtn in NorthAmerica
