According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Florida had a population of almost 19 million. In terms of race and ethnicity, the state was:
• 75.0% White American
• 16.0% Black or African American
• Less than 9% Asian or Other
More than 75% was Christian and more than 15% non-religious.
In terms of Hate groups, Florida ranks #2 in the United States, with more than 59 recognized hate groups. One area in particular has the highest concentration, between West Palm Beach and Miami. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there are white nationalists, 2 anti-muslim groups, 4 black separatist groups, anti-gay, general hate and Christian nationalists.
With their main campus in the center of this activity, Florida Atlantic University has recently launched a “Diversity Portal” to help engage with the community and prospective students amidst recent activity on campus.
