juvenile male White-headed Woodpecker peeking out of his nest hole. This is a nest I found with others on an annual Redwood Region Audubon Society field trip to the Horse Mountain area, Humboldt County, CA. Other species singing or calling in the background (in no particular order) are McGillivray's Warbler, Lazuli Buntings, Western Wood-Pewee, Spotted Towhee, and Red-shafted Flicker.
