"Diploma" is a short film made by the Filmeisters film club at Yokohama International School. It tells the story of a few students trying to make meaning of their existence after the zombie-apocalypse. The film won a gold medal and the Palm d'Or at the Kanto Plains Film Festival 2013, as well as awards for Best Camera (Sunbird Tsai) and Editing (Jun Sekiya). Yuki Nitta earned a Best Actor nomination, and Hiyori Takashima was one of two winners of the Best Actress award.
"Diploma" was also entered into the Koushien Film Festival 2013, the national film festival for Japanese high schools. The film won awards for Best Art Direction (Jun Sekiya) and Best Supporting Actress (Hiyori Takashima), and an Excellence Award for Editing (Jun Sekiya). The film was one of 20 films selected from 140 for the special selection, and won the Best Picture-Award of Excellence, a runner-up to the Grand Prix.
"Diploma" was written, directed and edited by Jun Sekiya from a story by Yuki Nitta and Jun Sekiya, produced by Matthew Sato, executive produced by Damien Pitter and photographed by Sunbird Tsai with make-up by Alexandra Haines and special effects by Matthew Sato.
