The Soviet third-generation manned orbital station “Mir” was the first modular orbital station. It was put in the orbit in February 1986, and on March 23, 2001 it was sunk in the Pacific Ocean. During its existence, the Mir station served as a home for 104 astronauts from 12 countries. The Mir station had the image of the highest level of the scientific and technical capability gained in the field of space exploration, and paved the way to its further growth at the turn of the new millennium for the sake of our descendants’ future, their well-doing, and conservation of life on our unique planet. In August 2013 the Mir station will return to Earth again. This time it will appear at the Burning Man Festival in Black Rock City.
