Conceptual Art Project: reducing=
Summit Rock (crag) from Mount Everest, as the highest point of Earth, shall be placed to the bottom of Mariana Trench as the deepest point of Earth. It is to demonstrate, that apart from geodetical alterations, the human´s doing also play a significant role in the changes witnessed on our planet. Therefore I want to call the attention to the fact, that every single human is directly or indirectly contributing to this acceleration process. The project demonstrates these changes by reducing the distance between the highest and deepest point on planet Earth in one course of events. This is achieved in May 2009 by (1. Phase, watch video) temporarily placing a piece of the summit rock (crag) on the very highest point on Earth. This even on top of the ever-present ice, encasing at the pinnacle of Mt. Everest. Here it was left for approx. 15 minutes to integrate itself with the mountain in this new, elevated position.
After that, a descending mountaineer team took the rock, containing the new height information, from the top of the “roof of the world” to sea level (2. Phase) in Hamburg/Germany. From there the journey is to continue (3. Phase) to the Mariana Trench where at the deepest point of Earth the “rock” finally will come to rest forever, on a place where the rock original was born. Two most apart distances measurements of our Earth will be reduced in one course of events.
