NEW NOMADISM Chapter 1: SCIARA

Sciara sets an imaginary narrative in which humans are striving through an 
ever-increasingly hostile climate and environment.


Following a group of survivors, we board on a metaphorical journey facing climate adversities in a range of prehistoric and lunar-looking landscapes, ultimately reaching the enlightenment by reconnecting to mother earth through physical ritualistic dances.

To frame the story in this post climatic-crisis future we chose the mount Etna. 


For its timeless essence, its history, geographical position and geological appearance showing features resembling a primordial state of the earth.

Titling this project, Sciara, is the Sicilian word defining the path/stream of lava after the eruption.

A dry element where nature struggles to flourish.

Drawing from the notion of “deep-time“ this journey envisions a perspective on a quasi-foreseeable future where our planet has shifted onto an extreme geological era, forcing humans to a constant migration and reconnect to our ancestral nature of “climate travellers”.

The body movements of the performers aim at responding to the natural environment, underlining the effort to re-establish a deeper connection with nature.

The aim of this visual narrative is to stimulate awareness on the ways climate change may affect our life and comforts.
