Starting to get hot and humid at the Gunks, so we decided to go for a mileage day. 2000' (the height of the NW face of Half Dome) seemed like a good number. The Nears has a great concentration of moderate climbs that go to the top in a rope-length, allowing us to link all the pitches on every climb.
I also wanted to shoot some video with the Canon S100 to see how it was. The footage doesn't really do the climbing justice since a lot of the time we were shooting from the top, where it is a little less classic than the lower cliff and its hard to see the rock below because of the steepness. And...we were there to climb. Temperature was around 85F and the cicadas were at full volume.
We climbed: Alphonse 5.8; Basking Ridge 5.7; Birdland 5.8; Broken Sling 5.8; Disneyland 5.6; Gelsa 5.4; Grand Central 5.9; Grease Gun Groove 5.6; Inverted Layback 5.9; Layback 5.5; Te Dum 5.7; Yellow Belly 5.8; Yellow Ridge 5.7.
