Monument Valley (2012) 6 minutes, super 8, b/w, silent
A home movie documenting a realization I made of Mark So's "parallel to the earth (In the angles where the grass writing goes on) (2011) [Ashbery Series]". You can see the score here: marksoscores.wordpress.com/2016/05/01/parallel-to-the-earth-in-the-angles-where-the-grass-writing-goes-on-2011-ashbery-series/
The performance began on September 18, 2011 as a part of the Los Angeles Road Concert: Sunset Blvd, a day-long presentation of site-specific projects from over 100 Los Angeles artists in unused public outdoor spaces along the entire length of Sunset Boulevard’s 24 miles, from Downtown to the Pacific Ocean. The first part of the film was made that afternoon as I gave Mark So a tour of the installation, which included 24 frames of clear 35mm film in various nooks and crannies under/around Sunset Blvd. The second part of the film was made about 6 months after the performance started, and is a tour with Mark So and Tashi Wada as we revisit and check in on the on-going performance.
