What are your favourite sci-fi films for 2013? This year’s big sci-fi films have been a divisive lot, with some fascinating entries. Tom Cruise’s Oblivion, which harkens back to the golden age of 60s and 70s sci-fi, and Elysium, the latest from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp look to be the standouts. M. Night Shyamalan crashes further in his career with After Earth, while Star Trek Into Darkness manages to be the first in the franchise that barely recognises its Gene Roddenberry roots. Steve and Ben talk about some of Hollywood’s offerings in the genre this year, including Oblivion, Man Of Steel, Iron Man 3, After Earth, World War Z, Pacific Rim, Elysium, and Star Trek Into Darkness. Also on the show, James Gandolfini's tragic passing, Spielberg and Lucas predict the implosion of Hollywood, filming FiST Chat episodes off of a smartphone, where to for scientists now that they’ve discovered the Higgs-Boson, and a brief wrap-up of Apple’s latest announcements at WWDC 2013, including iOS 7, OS X Mavericks and the new Mac Pro.
