Designer Michael Marriott talks about his commission for the exhibition ‘…how is it towards the east?’ at Calvert 22, (1 May – 2 June 2013)
Michael Marriott has been working as a designer since 1993. Although trained as a furniture designer, his practice is particularly broad in scope, embracing the design of exhibitions on one hand and products on the other. He is also often involved with many other peripheral aspects of design; teaching, writing, curating, collating, etc.
In all his varied practice there is a common core throughout, which is a search for the elemental nature of the thing in hand.
He is known for creating supremely well detailed and highly functional objects, renowned for their keen and economical grace.
He has designed furniture for some of the highest regarded manufacturers, such as SCP, Trico, Established & Sons.
