Teresa Margolles' work, an installation and a series of public actions and interventions for the Mexican Pavilion, is centered in and around the Rota Ivancich Palace in Venice. Teresa Margolles explores death as a subject and relates it to social and economic inequalities. Initially using the morgue as a Laboratory to develop her conceptual strategies, she later moved her focus onto the crime scenes, the streets, where the growing violence of drug related killings in Mexico takes place.
In 1990, Teresa Margolles (Mexico, b.1963) was a founding member of the group SEMEFO (Servicio Médico Forense/Forensic Medical Service) and has in this capacity since held performances, made installations, objects and videos and intervened in public places.
