Human beings are visual creatures, practised in recognising pictures and detecting objects hidden in patterns. The bandwidth between the eye and the brain is enormous and our software and hardware are here superior to what is found in computers. Sweden is today a world leader in visualisation technology. Four large Swedish research funders have joined forces in the Visualisation research programme in order to stimulate and develop visualisation and imaging in schools, the business community, higher education and the public sector. Behind the research programme are the Knowledge Foundation, the Foundation for Strategic Research, Vinnova, Vårdalstiftelsen (the Foundation for Health Care Sciences and Allergy Research) and the Invest in Sweden Agency. A total of SEK 85 million is being invested over five years.
