Exhibition in the Central Library Edinburgh. Open brief to create artwork that will be exhibited from June to August 2013. Inspiration can be drawn from the library and its huge collection.
y project is inspired by the way we read and what we are reading in the 21st century. Equipped with our many “i-devices” as well as e-readers, information is easily accessible and yet it feels like most of our time is merely dedicated to skimming for relevant information. Kafkas quote: “I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us. If the books we are reading don’t wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading them for?” inspired the outcome further. The concept was to create an animation using book pages to condense literature using distinctive quotes no longer than 140 characters (as with twitter). The animation is also reminiscent of an airport departure board with the books becoming the destinations.
