"Apollo and Thor" is the story of a man named Apollo who is trying to say a final goodbye to his father...who might have once been abducted by aliens. The friends who pay their respects live in different universes - Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Harry Potter and Star Wars. Apollo, played by Kim Dildine (Criminal Minds) and his wife Marge, played by Sabrina von Stock (Worst Date) can not control the wacky characters who have invaded their house. Not least the last one to arrive.
"Apollo and Thor" was a 1-day, 1-room shoot with a set crew of 12 and a cast of another 12. Finding the crew was easy - Geoff and Kim just called around to people they'd worked with over the years. Finding the cast was a challenge. Besides the usual casting calls on "NowCasting" and others, we reached out to fan groups of each show. Some of the cast showed up in costume, in makeup, ready to go! These cosplayers not only kept the mood on the set fun, but were helpful in keeping Geoff honest in terms of each fictional universe.
Written by Richard Kim, shot by Cameraman D (Bones, Dexter, Fun with Dick & Jane) and directed by Geoffrey Mark (Battlestar Galactica, Spiderman 3, Serenity.)
The film was shot on a Nikon D600, using all prime (24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 80mm) lenses. Geoff created a complete shot list and storyboard and the crew basically followed that. Except when walls got in the way. Everything was shot with a tripod, except for one dolly shot that used a wheelchair. Geoff dolly gripped for D.
