Join Jay Kania, President of Gulf Coast Kayak Fishing Association (GCKFA), and Robert Turpin, Manager of Marine Resources Division at Escambia County BCC, for this safety seminar that took place on June 5, 2013 at the University of West Florida Campus in Pensacola, Florida.
Summer is here in full effect and there are plenty of kayaks on the water. While kayak fishing can be a very rewarding and enjoyable sport, there are also many risks involved as there are with any activity involving the sea. Fortunately, these risks are often avoidable through experience, knowledge, and proper use of safety equipment. The GCKFA hosted a Kayak Safety Seminar that provided information, tips, and practical hands-on exercises that will keep members and the local kayak angler community safer on the water by practicing risk mitigation.
Topics covered included Kayak Safety Requirements, Recommended & Proper Usage of Safety Gear, Self-Rescue Tactics and Kayak Re-Entry.
