The exhibition runs from June 22, 2013 – July 22, 2013
Third Space Gallery presents INTENSIVE SPACES, a mini-series comprised of two exhibitions offering interactive experiences exploring and documenting interventions in public space and the process of matter transforming through energy, space and time.
…of the trace by Alexander Wilson
Alexander Wilson’s installation …of the trace is an intervention in public space, tracing and recording the movements and existence of those who pass by. A video camera and laser steering system are used to trace salient features of architectural elements in public spaces. Housed in the Saint John Art Centre, …of the trace makes use of the transience of those passing through the Centre.
crystalline domain by Erin Sexton
crystalline domain presents a visceral link with matter and energy through “pseudo-scientific experimentation” in which artist Erin Sexton “walks the line between ritual and experiment.”
Through a multi-channel a/v installation series, Sexton examines the process of matter transitioning from one phase to another and her personal relationship with aesthetics, sound, subjectivity, and perception. Utilizing a hybrid chemistry/electronics laboratory in a studio, video documented the growth of crystals from sugar, salt, borax, and copper sulfate while exploring the process through sound, video, and microscopy.
Raw and aesthetically playful, the resulting sound and video material is presented in real-time, patiently exploring the time-scale of nature, drawing the viewer through immediacy into contact with micro-macro cosmos.
