After a highly-successful run in St Andrews, students from the Mermaids Theatre Fund are taking Angels in America to the world's largest arts festival: the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, 2013.
C VENUES, AQUILA TEMPLE: EDINBURGH | AUGUST 11 - 17 | 10:20 pm
Considered by many to be one of the greatest American plays of the 20th century, Angels in America is a work of epic proportions in two parts, of which this production is the first. Millennium Approaches spans the years of 1985-1986, during the Reagan Administration and the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in New York City.
Through his characters and their conflicts, Kushner artfully conveys the changing psychological state of America in the years leading up to the dawn of the millennium. With a cast of eight actors playing multiple characters, Kushner toys with our perceptions of life, death, dreams, reality, spirituality, hope, faith, love, and loyalty in this ‘Gay Fantasia on National Themes’.
