Cass Pennant - the former leading face of West Ham’s notorious Inter-City Firm in the 1980s - was a significant figure in the Casuals movement which defined a style that reverberated around the world. Cass has since turned novelist and filmmaker and can claim to have a unique understanding of the relationship between football and fashion.
On Friday 17th May 2013 at the National Football Museum in Manchester, we hosted an exclusive interview with Cass to find out how football fans and match day trends have shaped the dress codes of the nation. He talked about the impact of the Casuals movement and how football fans are tailoring their styles in the modern era.
The live interview was conducted by Michael Taylor, the author of 'Northern Monkeys: Tracing the Evolution of Northern Working Class Fashion'.
Following the interview, Cass’s film, ‘Casuals’, was given its Manchester premier. This extraordinary documentary strips away the myths and tells the truth about the casual phenomenon that revived the men’s fashion industry to leave a lasting legacy on today’s label hungry youth.
