Located in the downtown civic center of Medford, Oregon, Richard Jarel's Salmon Flight kinetic sculpture shows the level of aerodynamic and mechanical engineering of the artist as he wraps the "magic" of the movement with an organic, Native American theme.
Each salmon is kinetically independent of each other and independent of the kinetic "river" frame. Heavy use of Delrin and stainless steel insure smooth, effortless and long lasting movement for years.
Although each salmon moves effortlessly in light breezes (noted in this particular video), the articulated salmon was stress tested to over 55pmh! Other works by Jarel has withstood winds up to 80mph!
