July 4th, 2013 fell on a Thursday this year so I detoured my ride to work (yes, I had to work the holiday or I would never have been up this early) past the Lakefront to the 15th Annual Triathlete Picnic and ambushed the lead cyclist at mile 3 of the 20 mile bike segment. The "race" was conducted on an open course and results were going to be unofficial - just an excuse to get sweaty in a tight costume before the bar-b-que and the live music. So during this sort of training race the rabbit I was chasing was less worried about winning the event than he was about being overtaken by anyone - especially ME. ( I was also wearing a small backpack during the filming of this video )
There was a 1/2 mile swim, 20 mile bike, 3 mile run. Or Run 3, Bike 20, Run 3. Or just bike the time trial. I have no clue what combo my guy was doing.
This is my fastest filmed ride to date and pretty close to 100% the best I can do. Poor technique on the geek's part kept me in the "race" until the very end.
Winds were 5mph - roughly to our backs most of this segment. Skies were heavily overcast and temps in the low 80s which made it possible to let-'er-rip without fear of heat exhaustion in New Orleans during July. This video covers about 3 miles of the course.
I am beginning to wonder if keeping up with cars during my commute is getting me in shape for geek hunting, or is geek hunting getting me in shape for keeping up with cars during my commute. I can draft behind the cars BUT they never get tired.
