The Ground Breaking Ceremony for The Port of Paulsboro was celebrated on September 22, 2009. The deepwater port will be built on 190 acres on the Delaware River in Paulsboro, NJ. It is a partnership between the Gloucester County Improvement Authority, the Borough of Paulsboro, the South Jersey Port Corporation, and the State of New Jersey.
Participating in the event were New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzine; Congressman Robert Andrews; Senate Majority Leader & Gloucester County Freeholder Director Stephen M. Sweeney; Mayor of Paulsboro & Assemblyman John Burzichelli; Freeholder Deputy Director Robert M. Damminger; Executive Director, South Jersey Port Corporation Joseph Balzano; Former Governor James Florio; Patricia Gallery, BP Operations Manager - U.S. Retail, Pipelines & Terminals; and Peter Tirschwell, Senior Advisor, "The Journal of Commerce".
The Port is expected to open in 2012.
