This is a video installation made in collaboration with Marissa Perel for a solo exhibition of the same title made as part of a residency at Spoke Gallery, Chicago, IL July 1-31, 2011. In our video work, we performed moments of intimacy and voyeurism in public parks and piers that used to be sites for cruising in Chicago.
Contrasting with these images, we made video in the private, interior spaces of the bedroom and bathroom, enacting fantasies for one another (and the camera) relating to domination, suffocation, and drowning. Both videos related an experience of water, as we watched Lake Michigan and laid beside it, and as we let the bath water come over our faces, pushing one another into it.
The video of public spaces was projected on the wall of the gallery, and the video of domestic space played on a monitor adjacent to the projection.
