Following on from the initial Shaping Sounds pilot project (vimeo.com/17772515), this is a documentary from the inter-disciplinary research project Shaping Sounds 2. The idea was to combine voice-movement techniques and acoustic technology from the motor/aircraft industries to explore two things in parallel:
- Whether we could expand profoundly deaf choreographer Chisato Minamimura's ability to use her voice on a felt sense level, as an internal 'soundtrack' to her own movement.
- Enhance the deaf (and hearing) audience's appreciation of live sound by using sound cloud mapping super-imposed over video images of live integrated voice and movement.
The research took place in 2012 during three separate weeks, split up over six months, at the University of Bedfordshire, leading to two work-in-progress presentations at the University and Greenwich Dance in London, excerpts from which appear in the video. It was commissioned by Greenwich Dance and Colchester Arts Centre.
