Retired Master-at-Arms K9 Handler Nicolette Maroulis was injured during active duty in the U.S. Navy. She spent 3-1/2 years in a wheelchair not knowing if she would ever be able to walk again, but she was determined to try.
A participant of the 2010 Face of America bicycle ride from Washington to Gettysburg, Nico also rode cross-country that summer on a hand cycle with the Sea to Shining Sea ride from World T.E.A.M. Sports. In October 2010, she participated in the Soldiers to the Summit expedition to Nepal from the non-profit organization. Both the Sea to Shining Sea ride and the Soldiers to the Summit expedition were chronicled in feature documentaries released in 2012, "Two Shining Seas," and "High Ground," respectively.
Since 2011, Nico has served as the Executive Director of the Austin, Texas-based non-profit, Summit International Development.
This testimonial for World T.E.A.M. Sports was recorded in 2011.
