These four hoglets have been with us at Willows Hedgehog Recue just under 48 hours.
They came in after being found near death & around half the weight they should be after mum was found dead in the middle of a field in a rural area. Just under 48 hours on and these hoglets have come a long way on. They are still very underweight but the food has to be increased slowly so as to not overload their little bodies. However now rather than lying in a lifeless heap, they are active, able to feed better and one has even managed to find the energy to ball and huff at me when I disturbed his much needed rest for feeding time.
They have now all been sexed and we have a litter of four males. At the moment they are identified by colour spots and are simply red, green. pink, and orange so we can chart individual progress. Pink, who was right on the edge of death when we rescued them is still the least active but he is gaining weight and feeding well. Red possibly has an issue with one of his back feet- this could simply be malnourishment or a bigger issue but at the present the emphasis is to get them back to the weight they should be and we can then look at any other issues.
