Created whilst artist in resident at Hotel Maria Kapel in The Netherlands, 'Costa' combines shots from Youtube clips advertising and promoting Costa Cruise Liners, of which the famous and controversial Costa Corncordia was a member; with a repetitive and never-ending drum beat taken from the opening sequence of the kareoke version of "I was made for loving you" by Kiss that was also used to promote Costa Coffee in their "I was made for loving you" TV advert from 2012.
Cruise liners often conduct "nowhere voyages", a 3-14 day trip where the ship never docks. I like this idea of looping/repetition that takes place on these nowhere voyages, and the disturbing reality of living/holidaying in a "traveling hospitality suite", where entertainment & relaxation are the main objectives, alongside the tax breaks. I'm particularly interested in the repetitive meetings, the familiar faces, and the conversations that would take place over and over again.
