I'm uploading this 1984 video here so that I can link it to my blogspot. It was shot on 3/4 inch tape in one take, during rehearsal, in the Ted Shawn Theater while we were in residency at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival (was the cameraperson Caru Thompson?)
IN THE DARK was originally made for a company called Werkcentrum Dans in Rotterdam - my first European commission which made me feel very sophisticated, and cosmopolitan, though it ends up with Aretha Franklin testifying the gospel. It's danced by Christine Philion, Peter Stathas and me, joined by Andy Wollowitz who was new to the company and Kim Flowers who never danced with us again.
It doesn't quite fit with the Vimeo look - it's posted partly as a workaround to avoid Youtube's "3rd party matched content", and partly an homage to a past that shouldn't feel quite so long ago.
