Take a glimpse into the lives of exchange students studying abroad in California! Waking up with an ocean view. Walking under palm trees and clear blue skies to class everyday. Partying hard, road tripping, discovering new cultures and getting into trouble along the way seem to be the lives of Lucas and Andy. They have always dreamed about being in California and now they are finally studying abroad living the dream. This episode follows central character Lucas over the course of one day, in a non-linear story that begins just after everything has gone wrong. We are introduced to all of the main characters in this episode and especially get to see the love interest between Lucas and Caitlin develop. We also get a full serving of comedy from best friends / roomie’s Andy (from London) and Sean (Californian hippy beach boy) with an added sense of drama and despair from the main antagonist (The Dean) as he threatens to expel Lucas from Collage. This pilot sets the tone for the series as we see how drama and comedy can unfold from cultural differences mixed with diverse characters in a place like no other.
As we progress throughout the series Lucas and Andy begin to realize this experience is much more than just chasing girls, red cup parties, marijuana, exploring new places and living the beach life. They fall in love with the place, the people and the work they are doing and decide they need to stay. Sean, their American roommate understands and acts as their guide throughout this journey. Our two Young students from the old continent are living the most intense experience of their lives and don’t want it to end. Intertwined with characters from different cultures and backgrounds, they sometimes lose the sense of reality. They are not here for a long time but for a good time. Will it be composed of ambitious achievements or will it be an obstacle course full of disappointments and mistakes? Will they find a way to stay in Southern California or get kicked out of the country for their antics? Whatever happens it will certainly be a “One of a Kind” journey.
