Maurits Lammertink (pro cyclist at Vacanoleil DCM) did a recon of the queen stage in the Tour de France of 2013. The Alp ride contains Col de Manse, Col d'Ornon, Alpe d'Huez (twice) and all the way to the top of the Col de Sarenne on an altitute of 1989 meters. After Col de Sarenne there's a terrifiing descent of aproximately 26,5 km that leads the riders to 700 meters. From this hight it goes up again from La Ferrière to the Dutch Mountain " Alpe d'Huez " were the race will probaply explode. Learnings of the recon:
1) the early break away will take off on the Col de Manse, where the riders start directly with the climb.
2) the descent of Col de Sarenne can be decisive for the GC.
