I dreamed there was a book of poems titled "Benign Indignities," which mean the various humiliations of one's life that, in the end, did not defeat you. The dream consisted only of a glimpse of the cover of this book, of a soft green color, with the two words of the title.
Then this week I have been at the Fishtrap Writers Gathering in NE Oregon, where Anne Sibley performed the music she and her husband Pete have made. I asked her permission to use the song "In the Twilight," and she graciously granted it.
So, for my dear students, I have made this little film to honor their own creative lives ahead, brushing off all worry about failure or resistance to the good struggle that deep writing requires. This is a blessing for all who seek to understand, to write, to help one another. --Kim Stafford
