"To dream the impossible dream…"
I was traveling to Los Angeles from San Francisco the day the Defense of Marriage Act was ruled unconstitutional and I remember saying to myself, "Of all days to go to LA!" I knew would be missing the party of the year in the Castro. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, you name it, there were pictures everywhere. People celebrating in the streets, kissing, hugging and embracing.
The 2013 San Francisco Pride parade was going to be a special moment in History and I had to be there. I thought of Liberace's rendition of The Impossible Dream while watching the awesome spectacle. A specific part of the song ran through my head:
"And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the impossible star!"
I'm proud of where we have come in this world, I'm proud of the ones who have fought and still fight for these rights. I look forward to the day when the fight will be over, I look forward to the day when being with the ones you love will no longer be an issue. When that day comes, I will truly be proud knowing we never stopped reaching for that impossible star!
