When I first picked up a hoop I was outside with only the wind for music. The sunlight was coming through the trees and the forest seemed so still. I began to move, just simply, keeping a cyclical rhythm. I felt in my body that we are all a part of this great dance. At our core everything is moving.
Hoopdance became my power practice. And from it I learned basic life navigational skills right away - that effective movement is equal parts effort and grace, softening and ferocity. And that unbridled self-expression, laughter, play, creativity and challenge are necessary and radically empowering aspects of our growth.
In my teaching, I offer the One Hoop One Love practice as a physical dance toward harmony with the rhythms of Nature - not as something separate, but as a web of support - as a source of empowerment.
We do in fact have a purpose - all of us - in our lives, in our communities, in the roles we alone are called to lean into. I often say that life has a sense of humor - to feel so much connection to a plastic circle, but I’ll always love this dance and what you love you naturally want to share...
