Blissful Bedrooms has a very special project underway and we need your help and support more than ever to finish it! This undertaking merges our passion for designing unique and functional personal spaces for young individuals with disabilities with our commitment to nurturing a meaningful community, and organizing joyful opportunities that nourish the members' minds, bodies, hearts and souls.
A team of Blissful Bedrooms volunteers have been building a BLISSFUL CABIN RETREAT in the Catskills (Saugerties, New York) over several weekends these past few months. Like our bedroom makeovers before, all of this work has been carried out by volunteers, many who make the trip from New York City each Friday and camp out on the grounds all weekend while they work. As we are in the heart of summer, the volunteer support for this project has decreased considerably save for the pure dedication and commitment of a few volunteers who have their eye on the finish line and won't stop until the dream is complete. We are understandably weary after this extended period of hard work, and we need the renewed support and help of others to complete the Blissful Cabin Retreat so we can present this oasis of peace and love to the disabled youth who are patiently and excitedly standing by waiting to visit their new vacation home.
For years to come, this cabin retreat will serve our community in the following ways:
1) As a hub for regular camping trips and retreats for groups of young individuals with disabilities.
2) As a respite for young individuals with disabilities, and their families, to escape the challenges of inner city life, and enjoy the country air and healthy living so they can recharge their spirits.
The Blissful cabin is a humble bi-level structure with a large attached deck. The purpose of such an expansive deck is so that our special friends in wheelchairs can have the freedom to move about the environment and feel at home and comfortable when staying at the cabin. It will also serve as the area where lots of fun things will be going on during our retreats and gatherings, such as meals, dance parties, inspiring movies, yoga/exercise classes and more. Leading off of the deck into the forest via a ramp will be a wooden pathway to a wheelchair accessible fire pit, where we will share many relaxing moments around the camp fire roasting marshmallows, singing songs, telling stories and simply sitting quietly together as we enjoy being mesmerized by the dancing flames.
We expect to have the cabin completed in a few weeks, but that depends on the help we receive from others in this final stretch of the project. God willing, we plan to host an Opening Reception for our supporters and soon after.
We envision the Blissful Cabin as being the first step to a multi-cabin retreat and wellness center -- Blissful Village, and likely a well-known camp for young individuals with disabilities in the coming years, and we hope you will join hands with us to set out on this exciting journey.
We are in extreme need of dedicated and committed volunteers to join our efforts. We are also in need of funds to put the finishing touches on this project and every little bit can go a long way to us achieving our goal. Please help us complete the building process by donating today!
