One of the most highly anticipated movies of this summer, Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro's "Pacific Rim" marries two sub-genres of 1950s and 1960s horror movies, the monsters and gigantic robots. Critics welcome the movie's design, the artistic mix of CGI and live action and Mr. Del Toro's layered characterization, as well as his global view, his avoidance of the usual flag waving in such projects. However, some US critics described the script's sub-plots and relationships as weak and flat.
