Speaking to a captive audience of more than 700 people at Adelaide Town Hall last month, His Holiness the Dalai Lama offered a personalised message on the importance of community and social wellbeing.
His Holiness warned listeners against developing a false sense of independence saying, “I can manage…no need for others…with money, with power, I can manage.”
“Ultimately if our lives depend on this false concept,” he said, “you will be a lonely person.”
“Our sense of concern for each other is important not necessarily as a religious thing, but for survival.
“As individuals our survival depends on this society, this community.”
The 20 minute talk moved into to a lengthy question and answer session with the audience on topics ranging from vegetarianism to the benefits of multi-faith societies and mainstream world democracies.
