Learning How To Die was an interactive western film workshop arranged by artist Stine Marie Jacobsen at the 10th OPEN International Performance Art Festival in Beijing China, where the audience made this video.
“Learning How To Die” is a physical interactive video installation that seeks to create a physical study of a western visualization of death in Western movies. The audience practice imitating a selection of various clips of gunslingers dying in Western movies.
“Learning How To Die” is a performance that seeks to invite audiences to parodize a mediatized and ideologized Hollywood death. Generally the subject has been and still is, considered, a passive subject when it comes to gender representations being introduced to us through a cinematic apparatus. “Learning How To Die” seeks to challenge this idea by introducing the idea of a subject already dead and therefore actively can engage in ‘playing’ with a specific Western representation of death.
