This year, I have a goal to learn how to play the ukulele. A friend, Candy Diaz while in Hawaii for a wedding last May, took me to the Kamaka factory and I was able to come home with my 1st ukulele. So for the last month and a half, I've been trying to learn it. I'm so not there yet.. Like most, YouTube becomes a good source for learning. Last year, that's pretty much where I got my instructions in playing the cajon. Anyway, while browsing YouTube, I ran across Glen Rose of Jazzy Ukulele. He had a tutorial showing how to play "Girl From Ipanema" using some cool Jazzy chords. I ended up buying the Jazzy Ukulele workbooks including the Bossa Nova Classics. (http://www.jazzyukulele.com) Now I'm really having fun learning!
Last Month, my wife Alma had a show / CD release at Catalina Bar and Grille in LA. She sang a Cole Porter song called "So In Love". I never heard the song before but I really loved it. After that night, I had a little dream that one day, I can play my ukulele as Alma sings the song in the living room. Well, I'm in the "pursue your dreams" mindset these days so I ended up asking Glen Rose to help create a chart for it so I can learn it. Thanks Glen! So I'm not quite ready yet - work in progress.... I'll never do justice but nevertheless, my wish has come true. I'm lucky to have a patient wife that gladly humors me while I live my dream.
I'm giving myself 1 year to learn the ukulele. Ok, 10 months left. I better pick it up.
