Dr. Amrei von Hase presents and discusses the paper entitled: “A process for assessing the offsetability of biodiversity impacts”. The paper, (lead author John Pilgrim, Head consultant at The Biodiversity Consultancy) outlines a general process for evaluating the relative offsetability of different impacts on biodiversity and from there offers a framework to establish the burden of proof necessary to confirm the appropriateness and achievability of offsets. In addition Jeff Manuel of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) presents South Africa’s approach to the limits of biodiversity offsets in their emerging regulatory framework.
